SEASON OF CATCH

Its large, flattened head is out of proportion with the rest of the body, which is conical in shape.

Its mouth, with a large number of teeth, is almost as wide as its body. Fleshy lips and lower jaw standing out from the upper jaw. No scales.

Has a spiracle by way of a "bait" over the head. Dark brownish, violet or greenish in colour, more or less mottled with a white belly.

Benthonic. Lives on rocky bottoms with abundant vegetation, sand and sand channels in the rocks.

Depths from 10 to 500 metres. Carnivorous.

Caught by trawling.

Atlantic from the Gulf of Guinea to the Barents Sea. Mediterranean.
