SEASON OF CATCH

Hake is the only member of its family living in European waters. With a head and mouth out of proportion with the rest of the body.

Long body, with bluish grey colouring, with silvery sides and belly. The first dorsal fin is short and triangular, and the second together with the anal fin has a swollen form.

Reproduces towards the end of winter and in spring.

Most of the time inhabits borders of the continental platform, from 150 to 600 or more metres depth. In summer it moves closer to the coast.

Generally found on the bottom, although by night it swims to the surface to hunt.

Caught by Longling and trawling.

Atlantic, from Morocco to Scandinavia. Mediterranean.
