SEASON OF CATCH

A stylised, compact body, with a narrow caudal peduncle. Elongated pectoral fins and an arched side line bordered with small bony lines.

Greenish or bluish colouring, silvery with yellow, purple or violet iridescent glints on the head, sides, pectoral and caudal fins. Generally with small dark spots on the opercula.

Marketed weights/grammages:
From 20 to 22 pieces/kg

Preparation and packing:
a) Whole
b) POLYSPAN boxes of 5 - 6 - 7 kg
c) On ice

Lives on the continental platform on the high sea. Forms large migratory banks shoals.

Feeds off small animals, but the larger individuals catch fish, especially clupeiforms.

Trawling and purse-seining.

Atlantic to Norway.
