SEASON OF CATCH

Brownish yellow colouring or opaque pinkish grey, often with small dark spots, and likewise on the fins. With a highly compact body with small scales. Eyes close together, separated by a bony crest. Caudal fin ends in an obstuse point (outwards in a diamond shape).

Lives on soft, sandy or clayey bottoms where it usually burrows in.

Bottoms of 10 to 600 metres, but mainly from 50 to 500 metres.

Trawling

Atlantic, from Gibraltar to Norway and Iceland. Fairly common. Rare in the western Mediterranean. The small sized megrim (Lepidorrhombus boseii) is smaller in size, and quite common on the Mediterranean.
