SEASON OF CATCH

More or less intense dark blue back, paler sides with bronze glints and silvery belly. Has a "sword" on the upper jaw.

High seas fish. Generally lives in midwaters, although it can be found swimming on the surface with the dorsal and caudal fin out of the water, and even descend to 800 metres depth.

Carnivorous. Aggressive and voracious. May be dangerous for man. Remains of "swords" have been found in the wood from vessels many metres deep.

Pursues shoals of needlefish, mackerel, with a special liking for cephalopods.

c) On ice

Solitary by nature, migratory and an excellent swimmer. A species as abundant as it is prized.

Caught by surface longlining, fishing line or high seas trolling.
